Before I got into this world of glamour I was a dancer and had just completed my grads. Happy with my dance and dance classes, I wasn't thinking much about my career and all. But financial independence and making a name for myself were two things that have always been a constant presence at the back of my mind that got me thinking. Least interested in academics I thought fashion would be a great idea. Little did I know, my foray into this world of fashion was going to be too much for me to handle.
So, I started this glamorous journey taking forward something that was really inspiring me back then “Dance”.
Yes, my first project was on my favorite of all dance forms, Hip-Hop. Being a Hip-Hop dancer myself, I must admit, I get inspired by the Hip-Hop culture a lot. The whole thing of being what you are, doing what you feel like doing and being what you are capable of being was something that really got onto me. Having friends who were more or less part of the culture motivated me even more.
Just to give my readers a sneak peak into what exactly Hip-Hop is, let me start by explaining that Hip-Hop originated in 1970's in New York City among the Black and Latino youth, it consists of 5 elements that represent different manifestations of the culture..Namely; Rap (Emceeing), Deejaying, B-boying, Graffiti and Beat-Boxing, all of which often includes freestyle.
So the idea of designing for someone who’s carefree yet confident was the concept that I started working on, the idea then gradually developed into my first collection.
